Band Staff

Mr. Connell

Mr. Steve Connell is currently in his 40th year as Director of the Pride of the Dutchmen Marching Band.

Mr. Honken

Mr. Honken will be beginning his career as a teacher this upcoming school year at MOC-Floyd Valley.  He is directing both the Jazz Ensemble and Concert Band in the High School, while also assisting with the Pride of the Dutchmen Marching Band during the marching season.  During the school year he will also be assisting at the Middle School by teaching lessons and leading the 7th and 8th grade Jazz Bands.

He grew up in Sibley, IA, and graduated from Sibley-Ocheyedan High School.  Furthering education brought him to Northwestern College here in Orange City, and he graduated in May of 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Instrumental Music Education.  Both he and his wife Rachel, also a graduate of Northwestern College, are very excited to be teaching in the MOC-Floyd Valley School District this year!

Mr. Mangold

Mr. Dan Mangold is currently in his fifth year as Assistant Marching Band Director of the Pride of the Dutchmen Marching Band. Mr. Mangold is percussion caption head for the marching band, directing battery and front percussion.  Mr. Mangold is the Director of Bands at MOC-Floyd Valley Middle School. He directs the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade concerts bands and both middle school marching bands. In addition, he is director of the MOC-Floyd Valley High School Full Orchestra. Prior to his coming to MOC-Floyd Valley, Mr. Mangold was Director of Bands at Sioux Central Community Schools in Sioux Rapids and 5th-6th Band Director at Albert City-Truesdale Community Schools. Mr. Mangold graduated from Sioux Central High School, Sioux Rapids, and went on to receive his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education from Northwestern College in Orange City. He holds a Master of Music degree in Music Education from the University of Northern Iowa. Outside of school, Mr. Mangold plays trumpet with the Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra and Le Mars Municipal Band. He is a member of First Reformed Church in Sioux Center serving as a member of the sanctuary choir, praise teams, and bell choir. He is the director of the Orange City Community Band. He was pit orchestra conductor for the Tulip Festival Night Show production of Mary Poppins and has played trumpet in the pit orchestra for several local productions.

Susan Henrich

Susan is one of the guard instructors for the Pride of the Dutchmen Marching Band. Susan is a MOC-Floyd Valley graduate and was a member of the band from 2003 to 2007.

Brande Pals

Brande is one of the guard instructors for the Pride of the Dutchmen Marching Band. Brande is a MOC-Floyd Valley graduate and was a member of the band from 2003 to 2007. Brande is the Administrative Assistant for the Admissions Department at Northwestern College in Orange City, IA. 

Jack Bonnecroy

Jack helps the Pride of the Dutchmen Band with the sound and audio equipment. Jack is a MOC-Floyd Valley graduate and played tuba in the band from 2004 to 2008. Jack is the Web Development Manager for Northwestern College in Orange City, IA.
